Prize for University Communication 2017 goes to the University of Cologne for the topic "Knowledge for the Society: Presenting Higher Education Research"

The € 25,000 prize for university communication 2017 goes to the University of Cologne.

This year, the prize was issued on the subject of “Knowledge for the Society: Presenting Higher Education Research”. Universities pursue research on diverse, socially discussed topics. This is connected with the task of communicating with the various concerned and interested groups, feeding the results into the ongoing discussions by suitable means, and enabling people to participate in the social discourse in a qualified way. Faced with an increasing shift away from differentiated, fact-based disputes, the universities face growing challenges.

The Cologne application convinced the jury because it created important prerequisites for dealing with these challenges. In the jury’s opinion, the University of Cologne has developed a concept that is exemplary because it involves two major difficulties in university communication: it identifies the societal need for scientific expertise and dialogue, and ascertains which research projects are of particular relevance at the university for the current discourse.
