GIZ in partnership with DFPD conducts evaluation workshop on National Food Security Act, 2013

A national workshop on ‘Concurrent Evaluation of the implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) in India’ was jointly conducted by the Department of Food & Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) & GIZ Food and Nutrition Security, Enhanced Resilience Project in India.

The workshop was conducted in order to present the findings of an ongoing concurrent evaluation on the progress of the ground level implementation of NFSA. 25 academic institutions from 21 states/Union Territories of India, including the IIT and BITS Pilani, were commissioned to conduct an evaluation with a pre-defined research methodology. Nodal persons of the academic institutions presented their first quarter findings at the workshop. Key areas of inquiry included: supply chain of food grains, Fair Price Shop audit and automation, accessibility and availability of food grains for women and children, exclusion/inclusion category, community monitoring and social audit of the services etc.

A website will be developed on which the edited volume of the study report will be published. Previous Joint Secretary Mr Tiwari, Director Mr Gupta (DFPD), Secretaries/Nodal Officers of the state and Professors/ Associated Professors/ Nodal Persons from academic institutions who have conducted the first phase of the survey participated in the conference. Total number of participants was 56. The momentum of the Department including Joint Secretary was very high.
