11 Institutions Declared 'Excellence Universities' under the German Excellence Strategy
After a long selection process, 10 universities and one university association made it to the list of the best German universities, also referred to as ‘Excellence Universities’ under the ‘Excellence Strategy‘, an initiative by the German government to promote cutting edge research at German Universities.
The universities and university alliance were chosen from a final pool of 19 applicants: 17 individual universities and two alliances of several universities.
The list of the selected Excellence Universities reads as follows:
- RWTH Aachen University
- The Berlin Association comprising Free University, Humboldt University and the Technical University of Berlin
- University of Bonn
- Technical University of Dresden
- University of Hamburg
- University of Heidelberg
- The Karlsruhe Institute for Technology
- The University of Constance
- The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich
- The Technical University of Munich
- The Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen.
As an ‘Excellence University,’ the selected universities are going to receive funding of €10 to €28 million per year, starting November 1st of this year and continuing up to at least seven years.
