Mechanisms of Cancer Genome Dynamics

Genome instability drives DNA aberrations, allowing tumors to evolve into aggressive, therapy-resistant, and metastatic phenotypes. While processes like DNA replication, mitosis, DNA damage repair, transcription, 3D-chromatin organization, and epigenetics are known to impact these genomic changes, their exact mechanisms and cross-talk remain open questions. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for developing novel cancer therapies.

This scientific workshop brings together experts in Cancer Genome Dynamics to discuss recent advances, pinpoint future research directions, and explore mechanistic cross-talks across cell-cycle processes and chromatin organization.

The workshop focuses on scientific exchange between IISER Pune (India) and the University of Göttingen (Germany), building on their existing long-term memorandum of understanding and collaboration agreements. University of Göttingen (UMG) brings a strong pipeline in cancer genome dynamics, featuring DFG-funded consortia (e.g., FOR2800 on DNA replication/mitosis cross-talk and RTG on therapy adaptation) anchored within the University Medical Center Göttingen’s (UMG) Center for Cancer Genome Dynamics and Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC-N). IISER Pune contributes to complementary research on 3D genome organization, DNA repair mechanisms, and transcriptional/epigenetic genome control. The workshop aims to serve as a springboard for joint Indo-German research proposals, provide a platform for early career researchers (PhD students and Postdocs) and faculty to share work, and establish formal student/researcher exchange programmes between the two institutions.

The workshop is financially supported by the DWIH New Delhi.
