International Climate Protection Fellowship

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation invites applications for the International Climate Protection Fellowships. The programme supports prospective leaders who are actively engaged in climate protection or climate-related resource conservation to implement a research-based project during a one-year stay in Germany.

Applicants will develop and carry out their own project in collaboration with a host institution in Germany, contributing practical solutions to global climate challenges.

Up to 15 International Climate Protection Fellowships are granted annually, funded under the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The fellowships target prospective leaders from non-European transition and developing countries, who possess extensive practical work experience.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation runs the programme in liaison with the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies in Environmental Management (CIPSEM) at TU Dresden, the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU), the Renewables Academy AG (RENAC), the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federation of German Industry (BDI).

Fellowship details:

  • Monthly fellowship allowance: €2,500, €2,800, or €3,000 for prospective leaders (depending on qualifications and career level) and €3,000 for postdoctoral fellows. All fellowships include ancillary benefits.

  • Individual support throughout your stay in Germany
